from the poetry book ‘Images of Life’
I wrote this poem as a way to share an important message. In a world where so much energy is spent trying to outdo one another or dividing ourselves by race, gender, or ethnicity, I wanted to remind us all of something deeper.
We often forget how much we have in common. Beyond the surface differences, we are all human, and the struggles we face—whether personal or collective—aren’t as different as we think they are. The Difference is about the power of positivity and self-confidence. It’s about recognising that what truly sets us apart isn’t where we come from or who we are, but how we think and what we believe about ourselves.
The Difference A Poem by E.T. Milligan
the only difference
between me and you,
and furthermore,
and two,
is not that I am,
and that you aren’t,
but I know I can,
and you think you can’t.

Life’s journey often feels like navigating through storms, where hope seems distant and shadows of the past linger. Yet, in the midst of darkness, a spark of light can guide us, offering solace and faith. E.T. Milligan's Reflections captures this beautifully, weaving vivid imagery of struggle, resilience, and the quiet calm that follows life’s fiercest trials.
