from the poetry book ‘Images of Life’
I wrote this poem in dedication to the many people that have suffered physical and psychological abuse and their plight for justice.
For Better or for Worse
you vowed to honor me
but battered me,
which shattered me
but never let me be.
you promised to trust me
but accused me
then abused me,
but never fled from me
you swore you’d admire me,
but opposed me,
then disposed me
but never set me free
you took my life…
but I’m our wife.

For those moved by this exploration of pain and perseverance, you might find solace and reflection in another piece that delves into the themes of resilience and healing. Consider reading "A New Beginning," a poem by E.T. Milligan that celebrates the indomitable spirit of survivors. It speaks to the journey from darkness to light, capturing the essence of rebirth and the quest for justice and inner peace.
